DSHG-04 Pilot Operated Valve
Yuken DSHG-04 Compatible

The DSHG-04 is the high-flow member of the Yuken-pattern directional valve family. Where the DSG-02 direct valve tops out at 60 L/min, the DSHG-04 uses a DSG-01 class solenoid pilot to shift a large 04-size main spool, handling up to 300 L/min at 21 MPa. YXCHK produces 20 DSHG-04 models across 10 spool functions, all Intertek certified and 100% factory tested.

Where DSHG-04 Sits in the Yuken-Type Range

Yuken-pattern directional valves scale across three tiers, and the jump from DSG to DSHG is not just a size increase — it is a change in how the valve is actuated. The DSG-02 is direct-acting: the solenoid physically pushes the main spool. Beyond roughly 60 L/min the spool becomes too large for a practical solenoid to shift, so the DSHG series introduces a pilot stage — a small DSG-01 class solenoid valve whose output pressure moves the main spool hydraulically.

That architecture is what lets the DSHG-04 pass 300 L/min while its solenoids stay the same modest size as those on a small valve. The trade-off is that the pilot circuit needs pressure to work — covered in the pilot configuration section below.

All three tiers share the 21 MPa rating and the same spool-code logic, so an engineer familiar with DSG-02 codes can read DSHG-04 codes without relearning the system.

Reading DSHG-04 Spool & Model Codes

Using DSHG-04-3C2-DL-T-D24 as the worked example:

04Nominal size04 = NG10 (300 L/min) · 06 = NG20 (650 L/min)
3C2Spool functionFirst digit = positions (2 or 3); remainder = neutral behaviour
DLElectrical connectionDL = plug with indicator lamp · LW = terminal box
TSpring arrangementT = spring centred (3-position types)
D24Coil voltageD24 = DC 24V · A220 = AC 220V

Spool function quick guide. The leading digit tells you the number of positions: 3Cxx spools are three-position with a neutral, 2Bxx spools are two-position spring-offset with no neutral. Within the three-position group, 3C2 is the standard four-way arrangement, 3C4 is its reverse, and 3C60 blocks all four ports in neutral to lock the actuator — the Yuken-pattern equivalent of the Rexroth E spool. The 3C10, 3C11, 3C12 and 3C3 codes are further neutral variants; send the code from your existing nameplate and we confirm the exact match.

Pilot Supply — The Commissioning Trap

Every pilot-operated valve shares one requirement that direct valves do not have: pilot pressure must be available at the moment the valve is commanded to switch. The DSG-01 class pilot on a DSHG-04 needs oil under pressure to move the main spool; without it, the solenoid clicks and nothing happens.

With internal pilot supply, that oil is tapped from the main P port. This is the simplest plumbing and works well when the P line stays pressurised throughout the cycle. With external pilot supply, a separate control line feeds the pilot stage — necessary whenever the main circuit can drop to near-zero pressure.

The trap: if the circuit unloads P to tank while the valve is centred, internal pilot pressure collapses at exactly the moment you need it to switch back. Symptoms look like an intermittent electrical fault — the valve works sometimes and not others — but the cause is hydraulic. If your circuit unloads in neutral, specify external pilot supply, or fit a pilot check valve to hold control pressure.

Also note the DSHG-04's T-port rating of 21 MPa, which is higher than the 16 MPa limit on Rexroth-type valves such as the 4WEH16. In circuits with shared return manifolds or counterbalance valves, that extra headroom is a genuine advantage.

Replacing a Yuken DSHG-04

YXCHK DSHG-04 valves follow the Yuken mounting pattern at 04 size (NG10, ISO 4401-05), so a like-for-like swap requires matching three things: spool code, coil voltage, and pilot/drain configuration. When those match, the valve bolts onto the existing sub-plate with no machining and no re-piping.

A note on cross-brand substitution. The DSHG-04 shares the ISO 4401-05 sub-plate footprint with Rexroth-type NG10 valves, but the two families differ in pressure class — DSHG-04 is rated 21 MPa while the Rexroth-type 4WE10 is rated 31.5 MPa. If your system relief is set above 21 MPa, a DSHG-04 is not a valid substitute regardless of bolt pattern. Conversely, if you are replacing a Yuken DSHG-04 in a 21 MPa circuit, there is no benefit in paying for a 31.5 MPa valve.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between DSG-02 and DSHG-04 valves?

DSG-02 is direct-acting — the solenoid shifts the main spool itself, NG6 mounting, 60 L/min. DSHG-04 is pilot-operated — a DSG-01 class solenoid pilot shifts a larger main spool hydraulically, giving 04 size (NG10) mounting and 300 L/min, five times the DSG-02 capacity. Both are rated 21 MPa and follow the Yuken pattern.

What do the DSHG-04 spool codes 3C2, 3C60 and 2B2 mean?

3C2 is the standard three-position four-way spring-centred spool (P→A in one position, P→B in the other). 3C60 blocks all four ports in neutral, locking the actuator — equivalent to the Rexroth E spool. 2B2 is two-position spring-offset with no neutral. The series also offers 2B2B, 2B3, 2B4B, 3C4, 3C10, 3C11 and 3C12.

Does the DSHG-04 require external pilot supply?

It depends on the circuit. Internal pilot takes control oil from the main P port and works when P stays pressurised. Circuits that unload P to tank in neutral need external pilot supply — otherwise pilot pressure collapses when the valve centres and it cannot switch again. This presents as an intermittent fault but is hydraulic, not electrical. State your circuit condition at inquiry.
